Thorn Forest, Part 1

I found it.

There it was,
Lying right
In front of me.
How could they
Have failed to see
This shape unseen
By human eyes,
This absolute discovery?
I reached to touch it;
Dare I grasp what lies
Beyond all understanding?
Surely it would
Strike me dead, like the
Ark of the Covenant, (which
By divine command
Exacted the price of arrogance,
And separated God from Man).
I pulled back my trembling hand
And fled into a forest of thorns.
