Plato knew the truth—
Souls corrupted
By this dark craft.

His republic would have
Banished us to
Unforgiving lands
Far beyond
The city walls,

Where savage men
Dwelt like beasts
In the pure, blind night—
While the civilized raged
Against our evil vice.
